Evergreen blog content is blog content that “makes sense” or is broadly written to serve readers over an extended period. When you come upon evergreen blog content – no matter when it was written, within reason – it can apply to you.

Non-Evergreen Blog Post: 3 Newsletter Strategies to Use in May 2017

If both of these blog posts were pinned on Pinterest, the evergreen example could truly “live on” because it is relevant no matter the day, week, month, year, or season. (Conversely, the non-evergreen example may not be as “Pinterest-worthy” because Pinterest users don’t see the content as relevant anymore.)

Today, we’re excited to share 3 tips for creating evergreen blog content!

3 Tips for Creating Evergreen Blog Content

  1. Think about your Ideal Client, or Ideal Reader. First, begin by thinking about your Ideal Reader – prospective clients, current clients, or past clients. What do they want to learn more about? What resources are they in need of, or in search of? At With Grace and Gold® our clients – creative women in business – are often searching for content about small business ownership, blogging, social media marketing, branding, and web design. For this reason, we work to develop relevant content within each category. What does your Ideal Reader want to learn more about?
  2. Look for ways to make content less specific. Maybe you’ve got an awesome idea for a blog post, but the blog post will only make sense this week. (That’s okay, too!) However, if you’d like to help your content become more evergreen, look for ways to make your content less specific. “Things to Do This Week in Charleston” could become split up between broad posts like “Top Attractions in Charleston” or “Best Things to Do in Charleston.” That way, no matter when the blog post is found, it will be relevant to the reader.
  3. Pin your blog posts on Pinterest, so they can live on.  Lastly, use Pinterest as a place to pin your blog content. That way, as readers search for your content, they will come upon – and hopefully re-pin – your content.
