It’s likely you’ve heard how essential newsletter marketing is for small business owners. In the ever-changing world of social media marketing, being able to directly, consistently, and clearly reach and serve your audience has never been more beneficial. Newsletter marketing provides a direct line of communication to your audience via email. Whether you are new to newsletter marketing (Something Episode 212 can help with!) or you’re more experienced, you’re likely wondering how you can fast-track the growth of your newsletter audience, and therefore, the growth of your revenue and business as a whole. Today, we’re sharing how we quickly added over 3000 subscribers to our newsletter audience, using one extremely helpful and fun tool.

How We Gained 3000+ Newsletter Subscribers with One Tool

At With Grace and Gold, our newsletter community is central to our business. Since 2014, we’ve focused on offering high-quality lead magnets, serving our readers through heartfelt, actionable education, and fostering a community we are so proud of. We wholeheartedly believe all small businesses can benefit from having a newsletter community — communicating with, serving, and directly helping their audience. Over the years, we’ve explored many approaches — but our most effective tool for growing our newsletter audience is… a quiz.

Quizzes are more than just entertaining — they’re interactive, personalized, and, most importantly, they provide value to both you and your audience. Here are a few key reasons why quizzes are so effective:

  1. Engagement: Quizzes grab attention. They’re interactive, which makes them more engaging than static content. According to data from BuzzSumo, quizzes get shared nearly 1900 times on average, making them one of the most shared content types on social media.
  2. Personalization: People love personalized content. A quiz feels like a conversation where the outcome is tailored just for the quiz-taker. Personalized experiences can significantly increase engagement rates.
  3. Data Collection: Quizzes allow you to gather valuable information about your audience’s preferences, needs, and interests. This data can be incredibly useful for tailoring your marketing strategies and content.
  4. Lead Generation: When you offer a quiz, you can ask participants to enter their email addresses to see their results. This is a non-intrusive way to grow your email list with engaged, interested subscribers.

The system we use to create quizzes at With Grace and Gold is called Interact. Today, we want to share a step-by-step guide for creating a quiz using Interact.

Creating a Quiz with Interact

  1. Step 1: Sign Up for Interact. First things first, you’ll need to sign up for an account on Interact. Interact offers a variety of plans, including a free option that’s perfect for getting started. Once you’ve signed up and logged in, you’re ready to begin creating your quiz.
  2. Step 2: Choose Your Quiz Type. Interact offers several types of quizzes, including personality quizzes, scored quizzes, and assessment quizzes. Personality quizzes tend to be the most engaging because they provide personalized results that people love to share. For example, you could create a quiz titled “What Type of Entrepreneur Are You?” which ties directly into your brand and newsletter content.
  3. Step 3: Design Your Quiz Now comes the fun part—designing your quiz! Here’s how to do it:
    • Create a Compelling Title: Your quiz title should be catchy and relevant to your audience. Think about what topics resonate most with them and frame your title accordingly.
    • Craft Your Questions: Aim for 5-10 questions to keep your quiz engaging but not too long. Your questions should be related to the topic and interesting enough to keep quiz-takers engaged. For example, if you’re targeting entrepreneurs, ask questions about their work habits, goals, and challenges. Your questions and and answers can be text-only, or you can add supplemental images to create a more engaging quiz design.
    • Design Your Results: Write results that are insightful and encouraging. Each result should offer value to the quiz-taker, perhaps by providing tips, resources, or a link to a related blog post.
    • Or… use the AI quiz creator. If you’re unsure about what your quiz topic should be, what the title should be, and even what the questions should be, simply answer a few questions about your business, and let the AI quiz creator do the rest. This feature is amazing and makes creating a quiz easier and faster than ever!
  4. Step 4: Integrate Lead Capture To grow your newsletter audience, you’ll need to add a lead capture form to your quiz. Interact makes this easy:
    • Customize the Form: You can customize the form to match your brand’s colors and style. Ask for the essential information — usually just a first name and email address.
    • Incentivize Sign-Ups: Offer an incentive for completing the quiz and signing up for your newsletter. This could be a free e-book, a discount code, or access to exclusive content.
    • Link Your Quiz to Your Newsletter Platform: With just a couple of clicks, connect your Interact account to your newsletter platform. We use Flodesk, so our quiz-takers are instantly added to our Flodesk subscribers.
  5. Step 5: Promote Your Quiz Once your quiz is ready, it’s time to share it with the world! Here are some effective ways to promote your quiz:
    • Social Media: Share your quiz on all your social media platforms. Use engaging visuals and a call to action to encourage people to take the quiz.
    • Website and Blog: Embed the quiz on your website and promote it in relevant blog posts.
    • Pop-Up: Create a pop up using Interact’s embed tools, or create a pop-up of your own so a link to your quiz is easily accessible from your website.
    • Email Campaigns: If you already have an email list, send out an email encouraging subscribers to take the quiz and share it with their friends. This can help you to segment your existing newsletter subscribers, or reach a new audience.
  6. Step 6: Analyze the Results After your quiz has been live for a while, check the analytics in Interact to see how your quiz is performing. Look at metrics like completion rates, shares, and the number of new subscribers. Use this data to refine your quiz and make improvements where needed.

Summed up, quizzes are a fantastic way to engage your audience, provide personalized content, and grow your newsletter list. By following these steps with Interact, you can create a quiz that not only entertains but also expands your reach and strengthens your connection with your audience.

Remember, the key to a successful quiz is making it fun, valuable, and relevant to your audience. Visit withgraceandgold.com/quiz to see FOUR examples of quizzes we’ve created for our visitors — and visit the Interact link in our show notes to create a quiz of your own!
