Hi friend, and welcome back to The Brand It, Build It Podcast. I’m so glad you’re here. Today, we’re continuing our three-part series called SEO Made Simple.
Last week in Part 1, we laid the foundation by talking about what SEO really is and why it matters for your small business. If you haven’t listened yet, I recommend starting there — because everything we’ll talk about today builds on those basics.
This week, in Part 2, we’re focusing on easy website tweaks to boost your visibility. These are simple adjustments you can make — often in just a few minutes — that can have a big impact on how both search engines and potential clients experience your site.
Why Small Tweaks Matter
Think of your website like a home. The foundation is essential, but the little details — like clean windows, welcoming lighting, and labeled rooms — make it easier for guests to find their way and feel comfortable. SEO works the same way. Once your foundation is set, these smaller tweaks can make a big difference in how easily people discover and use your site.
Tweak #1: Use Image Alt Text
Alt text is the short description attached to every image on your site. It helps people using screen readers — and it helps search engines understand what your photo is about.
- Instead of writing “image123.jpg,” use something descriptive like “Bride and groom at Dallas studio wedding.”
- Keep it clear, specific, and natural. This tiny step helps your site show up in both regular and image search results.
Tweak #2: Link Between Your Own Pages
Search engines love to see that your site is connected. Linking from one page to another — like mentioning your Services page in a blog post, or linking a blog post from your About page — shows search engines how your site is structured and helps visitors explore more of your content.
- Ask yourself: if someone landed on this page for the first time, what would I want them to see next? That’s the perfect place for a link.
Tweak #3: Improve Your Site Speed
A slow-loading site is frustrating for visitors and for Google. The good news? Even small fixes help.
- Resize and compress large images.
- Remove plugins or features you don’t use.
- Use a reliable hosting platform.
Often, your website platform — like Showit, Squarespace, or WordPress — has built-in tips for optimizing speed.
Tweak #4: Keep Mobile in Mind
More than half of all web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your site looks great on desktop but is hard to use on a phone, both your visitors and search engines will notice.
- Test your site on your phone.
- Is the text easy to read? Are buttons easy to tap? Is navigation clear?
- If something feels clunky, chances are visitors will feel the same.
Tweak #5: Refresh Your Page Titles and Descriptions
We touched on this last week, but it’s worth repeating: your page titles and descriptions are what show up in search results.
- Make sure every page has a unique title and description.
- Write them like little invitations — clear, welcoming, and reflective of your brand voice.
- Even updating just one or two pages per week can add up quickly.
Looking Ahead to Part 3
These little tweaks are easy to implement, but together, they build a website that’s more visible, more user-friendly, and more trustworthy.
Next week, in Part 3, we’ll go one step further and talk about how to create content that ranks. Because once your foundation is strong and your site is optimized, the next step is producing content that draws in your dream clients again and again.
Until then, I encourage you to choose one or two of today’s tweaks and put them into action. Remember: SEO doesn’t have to be complicated. Even small, consistent steps can move your business forward in meaningful ways.
Thanks for joining me for Part 2 of SEO Made Simple. If you found this helpful, I’d love if you subscribed so you won’t miss Part 3, and maybe even share this episode with a fellow business owner who’s ready to make SEO feel simple, too.
Until next time, keep building a business — and a website — you love.
