When we serve creative women in business through brand and web design, one comment we often hear is: “I feel so anxious about my About page!” While we provide helpful prompts to guide our clients through the copywriting process, the clients we serve feel overwhelmed by writing about themselves – and they aren’t quite sure what’s “worthy” of this page of their online home. Can you relate? Today, we’re excited to share our tips for creating an engaging, impactful About page!

Creating an Engaging, Impactful About Page

  1. Put yourself in your Ideal Client’s shoes. Often times, we tend to begin brainstorming for our About pages by thinking about ourselves: What are some fun facts about myself? What sets me apart? What is my background? Instead, the best way to begin composing your About page is to think about your Ideal Client. Who are they? Why have they arrived on your website? Begin by addressing who they are and what their pain points are. Then, let your Ideal Client know you have the solution to their problem.
  2. Write down words, phrases, and values true to you. Your About page should sound like you – a real-life conversation with you. Jot down words, phrases, and values that are true to you. This will help you to write your About page in your voice. (The danger comes when we look to other people’s About pages in order to write our own.) Your Ideal Client wants to connect with you – and when your voice is true to you, not only will your Ideal Client connect with you, but you’ll also have confidence that your business is communicating like you, too!
  3. Share about yourself in a way that matters to your Ideal Client. As you compose your About page, you’ll first meet your Ideal Client where they are. Then, you’ll introduce yourself and share how you’re uniquely qualified to serve your Ideal Client. As you write your About page, share about yourself in a way that matters to your Ideal Client. Yes, fun facts are really fun – but how can you use each unique opportunity to connect with your Ideal Client in a meaningful way?
