Should you offer discounts on services?
First, we’d love to begin by saying: If you have offered or plan to offer discounts on your services — we support your decision! Here, we’re simply excited to share our unique philosophy and approach — to begin an open conversation about offering discounts on services.
Since the start of our business journey, we have known, to continue our journey as With Grace and Gold, we need to:
- Produce really beautiful, one-of-a-kind branding and design,
- Serve our clients well and wholeheartedly,
- Offer each service and product at a price point reflective of our education, our experience, our expertise, and the results we bring to our clients. (After all, we believe the best design is both beautiful and goal-driven, helping you to grow and expand your business in measurable and immeasurable ways.)
As a team of two, we are conscious of the unique experience we are able to provide to our clients. As a team of two, with unique educational and professional backgrounds, we love having and sharing unique perspectives and strategies with our clients. Our clients, in turn, have said they love having a team behind their business — encouraging, supporting, and equipping them for success.
As we reflect upon our services, products, and the experience we provide, we know we need to offer each service, product, and experience at a price point that will allow us to continue our journey as small business owners – as a team.
If we are to offer discounts, are we actually discounting ourselves? Our expertise? Our education? Our ability? As an example, if a service was $2000 today, and $4500 tomorrow — what is our expertise, education, and ability truly worth? If we’re willing to complete a service $2000 today, from our clients’ perspective, why shouldn’t we be willing to do so tomorrow? Does a discount on our services send a message to our prospective clients: “Our services aren’t worth as much as we have claimed.”
For all of the above reasons, we do not offer discounts on our services: We want our prospective clients to know that we value and believe in the work we do. We know the work we do has value and can bring amazing value to their journey as a business owner, too! We want our prospective clients to know how important they are — how important their success is to us!
The truth is, there is so much more to the price of a service than the service itself. From our client experience and professional, timely communication, to the personalized details that make our process one-of-a-kind, we believe in the price we ask for our services. We want to bring the same heart, purpose, value, and joy to every experience we offer.
