Good morning!
Last week, I started and finished the book The Emotional Edge. Basically, it’s a book about starting your life today — and creating new habits for yourself, to ensure a happy and positive lifestyle. It was a really wonderful book to read, because it reminded me that we have a lot of control over our happiness and contentment. As they say, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it!

Today, I’m excited to share 5 tips for a great morning!
5 Tips for a Great Morning
- Keep your phone away. If you’re like me, your cell phone is like a trap. One glance at that thing and I am sucked. in. From notifications on social media to an urgent e-mail or ten, looking at my cell phone first thing in the morning can cause me to feel overwhelmed before I’m even out of bed! Keep your phone put away until after you’ve completed your relaxing morning routine and you are truly ready to begin the workday.
- Begin the day with yoga or stretching. Short-term thinking tells us: “I have to jump right into work today – otherwise, I’ll never get everything done!” Long-term thinking tells us: “I’ll start the day with yoga today, so I can set the tone for a great day and feel positively about the work I’m doing.” As tough as it may be, long-term thinking has to have priority for a happy and positive day. Start the day with yoga or stretching so you can ease into the day and do something just for you! With yoga, you’ll experience a positive physical and emotional change — which will help you to have longevity!
- Practice gratitude. Start every day by listing 3 things you are grateful for. Something I was reminded of in The Emotional Edge is that it’s up to us to feel positively about who we are and what we’re doing. We do not have to hold onto the bummed out feeling we had the day before, and we can not blame our unhappiness on a bad experience we had the week before. Instead, we have to face each day as a brand new day – an opportunity to start fresh with a clear and positive mind!
- Treat yourself. Treat yourself to a cup of coffee or tea! Having something to look forward to and something to sip on as I begin my day gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!
- Make a plan. Using your planner or project management software, set a plan for the day. Diving in without a plan can cause you to feel overwhelmed and to jump from task to task with no real direction or purpose. Set goals for the day, and prioritize your to-do list. Doing so will help you to stay focused and to stay on track throughout the entire day!
