Are you struggling to find clarity in your business? Like many creatives, my head is always spinning with ideas! On top of our daily workflow, I’m always asking myself questions like:
- Would this new service be a good fit for With Grace and Gold?
- Would that new Project Management Software work well for our business?
- Is this the best use of our community?
Having questions is a natural part of business ownership. After all, as business owners, we have a responsibility to ourselves and to our business to make progress. If you find yourself feeling flooded with ideas — and uncertainty — we encourage you to find peace in your mission and vision. Today, we’re sharing 5 ways to find clarity in your mission and vision.
5 Ways to Find Clarity in Your Mission and Vision
- Develop a clear mission and vision for your business. Do you have a mission and vision for your business? With a clear mission and vision, you’ll have a strong foundation for your business — and navigating through the good ideas and bad ideas will be less stressful.
- Write down your ideas. Make a list of your ideas, whether you believe they are good ideas or bad ideas. Write them down, and give yourself an opportunity to decide whether each idea aligns with your mission and vision. At With Grace and Gold, our mission is to provide purposeful branding, design, and education for creative women in business. If an idea does not align with our mission, we move on.
- Follow your instincts. When our business first launched, we had a Print Shop! (True story!) As time went by, we realized our heart wasn’t in our Print Shop, and that our Print Shop wasn’t aligned with our mission and vision. That uneasy feeling — or that feeling of disconnect — is often an indication that you’re moving in the wrong direction. Is there an area of your business that you’re feeling less-than-passionate about? Ask yourself if that area of your business is aligned with your mission and vision. If not, consider moving on and pursuing something better-aligned with your goals!
- Avoid comparison. Comparison is probably my least favorite part of business ownership! I am a part of several Facebook communities, which can be awesome resources for networking. However, while networking, I can’t help but take notice of the businesses that do what we do at With Grace and Gold. I can’t help but ask, “Is that a service we should be offering, too?” or “Should that be a part of our Client Experience, too?” At the end of the day, we encourage you to find peace exactly where you are. You have something special to offer — so do your best to stay true to who you are and to develop a business you love and feel proud of!
- Assess. Set time aside every quarter to assess your business. What is going well? What could be going better? When you assess your business in an organized and regimented way, you’ll feel less idea overload during the typical work week. Strive to improve your business bit by bit, but only do so with purpose. Always reflect upon your mission and vision and ask yourself if every area of your business is truly aligned with your mission and vision — from your Client Experience to your final product.
