Social media strategy. As small business owners, social media strategy is something we know we need — but where and how do we begin? With anything, we believe a plan — and a commitment to the plan — leads to success. Today, we’re excited to share with you a stress-free approach to social media strategy.
Note: The following tips and tricks are designed for the business owners who are (1) new to social media marketing, or (2) in need of social media marketing guidance! If you’re an experienced business owner and social media whiz, we are still hopeful you’ll pick up a few tips to keep in mind, too!
A Stress-Free Social Media Strategy
- Ask yourself: What is my goal? Goals are super important! Without goals, it can be very challenging to develop a meaningful strategy and to assess if the strategy is successful — right? When it comes to social media strategy, begin with the end in mind. For us, a few of our goals are: to provide meaningful content, to speak to our Ideal Client, and to connect with a diverse array of women who may be able to benefit from the branding, web design, and education we offer at With Grace and Gold. Therefore, every post we create is created with these goals in mind. If it doesn’t further the mission and vision of our business, we don’t post it! Easy peasy!
- Get organized. Which social media platform(s) do you want to focus on? All are helpful in their own way, but which do you want to focus on? Which platform(s) are your Ideal Clients using? As a visual business, we focus our energy on Instagram. We are hopeful our Ideal Client will connect with the branding and design projects we do, so we are sure to take advantage of Instagram! Decide which platform(s) you’d like to pursue, and pursue each wholeheartedly.
- Map it out. Use our handy dandy Weekly Editorial Calendar to plan your blog posts and social media posts. (Tip: Don’t feel pressured to post every single day! Do what feels right for you and your business, but don’t be afraid to stretch yourself, either!) With every post you plan, ask yourself: “Does this further the mission and vision of my business?” and “Am I speaking to my Ideal Client?”
- Live it out. Whether you start every week by scheduling your social media posts (We recommend Buffer or Planoly!) or you start every morning by scheduling your social media posts — live out the plan you’ve made. Add it to your calendar, set an alarm on your phone — do everything you can do stick to the plan you’ve created for your business. Your dedication and consistency will help you to succeed!
- Assess. At the end of every week or every month, observe how your plan is working. Has your engagement increased? Decreased? Has your following increased? Decreased? Do you feel well organized? Overwhelmed? Assess how your social media strategy is working — or not working! Then, change your strategy as needed.
The best way to get started is simply to get started. Get organized, and don’t be afraid to try a variety of strategies along the way! On our Pinterest, we share a variety of tips and tricks for every social media platform. We hope you’ll take a peek and follow along!
