When, and what, was your “breakthrough moment” — The moment you knew you had created a successful business?

Jasmine: I believe life is made up of many defining moments. There were so many times I faced things that I thought would hold me back. They seemed so big in the moment, but it wasn’t until I found a way to overcome them that I realized they were one of many defining moments. I think one of the first breakthroughs came when I had my first opportunity to second shoot. I knew that all I needed was a chance and once I got it, there was no stopping me, I was going to find a way to keep going.

From the day your business began, what major pivots or changes have been made? How did you know you were ready to embrace change?

Jasmine: I have to be honest.  Really honest.  When I was 25 years old, doctors said my mom was dying of brain cancer.  She was only 50.  In that moment, I thought I was having a mid-life crisis.  I was literally half the age of my dying mother.

In that moment, I understood how fast life flies by and I promised to do everything I could to ensure I didn’t look back on my life from a hospital bed and wonder What if…

Are pivots scary?  Yes.  Unpredictable?  Yes.  Awkward, painful, stressful?  Yes, yes, yes.  But pivots are exciting and life-giving, too.  Pivots make you thrilled to work for something you truly want and believe in.  Pivots make you breathe deeper.  Pivots make you trust in yourself and ability to success more than you could ever imagine.

Oh, and here’s some good news: My mother miraculously recovered from brain cancer… and she’s the first person I call when I’m ready to make yet another pivot.

If you’re looking for people to “get” you or applaud your career-switching decisions, you may be searching for a long time.  The vast majority of people are afraid of trying something new, but–more so–afraid of failing publicly.  Most people don’t want to be vulnerable and run the risk of closing the doors to a dream.

Your responsibility isn’t to handle the naysayers, nor is it to convince others that your decision is right.  Your only job is to do what you’ve been created to do.  You must stand in the rightness of your vision and let your success silence their doubts.

What fears or challenges do you face in your career? How do you overcome them?

Jasmine: Honestly, there are so many and they change all of the time. I feel anxious when I walk into a room filled with my peers and wonder why I’m there. I ask myself if I measure up. I do all that I can to ensure that I deliver the best I have to offer to my members but sometimes find myself asking if it was enough. I produce a lot of online content and honestly, some days I’m overwhelmed to keep up with the pace I set for myself. As I look at all of these examples, gratitude and grace are the two tools I use to overcome these challenges and fears – as well as leaning into my support system!

What role has grace — giving grace or receiving grace — played in your business?

Jasmine: Grace plays a huge role in my business although it comes more naturally for me to give grace to others than to myself. I often remind myself to extend myself the same grace I’d generously give to someone on my team. As a recovering perfectionist, it can be hard but I know the power of it and it’s important that I practice it when opportunities arise as they always do.

What is something you’re most proud of? What legacy do you hope to leave behind through your work?

Jasmine: I’m most proud of taking risks and being willing to fail. No one wants to be a failure but I firmly believe that the path to success is built on being vulnerable enough to risk failing. The work I’m doing is all about possibility, showing people what they’re capable of doing. My intention is that people feel inspired and empowered. That they find the courage within to face their fears, find ways to persevere, and believe in themselves enough to not just chase their dreams but build the life of their dreams.
